Local inventor creates head-elevating bed
By Dana Shapiro
The head of the bed elevates with the simple touch of a button--there is no bending at the waist, reducing the cause of pressure in the abdomen.
"It is another option that we have to offer our patients," said Dr. Brad Bomba, Jr., a local doctor at Internal Medicine Associates whom Harrell consulted while developing her idea.
"It's a great idea, a great concept," Bomba said. "And it will work for patients.". . . . . .
Joyce Harrell said she looks beyond profit and realizes she helps improve the quality of life for those who share her disease.
"Helping people (and) seeing them get a product that really helps them is the best part," Harrell said.

Sleepcliner Bed Elevating System
Offers a Good Night's Rest for GERD Sufferers
BLOOMINGTON, IN. The revolutionary new treatment
for GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease) doesn't come in a pill.
You don't need a prescription for it in fact, you can't even
buy it in stores. What's the treatment? Sleep. Restful, healing
sleep. "Doctors have known since antiquity that a good night's
sleep is the best medicine," says Dr. Brad Bomba, Jr., "but
for people who suffer from GERD and many other ailments, sleep is
hard to come by. And without a good night's sleep, a patient's overall
health deteriorates."
For years, doctors have recommended patients elevate the head of
their bed to alleviate the uncomfortable symptoms of GERD, acid
reflux disease, Barrett's esophagus, congestive heart failure, emphysema,
hiatal hernia, sleep apnea and snoring. Before the Sleepcliner™ bed
elevating system, the only alternative was to place blocks under
the head of the bed.
